Yamilet is an intuitive educational leader, former admission officer and college counselor. Her roots are in the island of Puerto Rico where she lived until she left warm coastal days to attend college in Texas and immerse herself in all the Lone Star state had to offer. Yamilet’s lived college experiences were a turning point for her to examine how her self-identity and voice were her strengths. She began her college admissions career at her alma mater in Texas and then moved on to other admission roles throughout the country. She worked with the Honors Program in Medicine at the University of Miami, served as Associate Director of Diversity at the University of Southern California for 10 years and most recently served as the Assistant Dean of Outreach and External Relations for Stanford University. With over 20 years in the field of higher education, Yamilet has read over 25,000 admission applications, developed training for application readers, worked across campus departments that focused on student support and was responsible for outreach in both domestic and international geographic areas.

Yamilet believes in the power of compassion and education to build a more socially equitable future for all. She works on equity committees within regional and national admission professional organizations to create educational opportunities for all members seeking to develop long-term policies and practices that center equity in college admissions. Yamilet loves empowering young people to recognize and celebrate their full selves as they navigate their college application process and identify colleges that will allow them to flourish!

Yamilet loves a good mofongo, dancing to salsa music when no one is watching and traveling but equally enjoys spending time at home in Los Angeles with her one eye bandit dog Seany.
