When given the opportunity at 19 to escape his hometown of Somers, Connecticut, Nate enrolled across the country at Johnston College of the at University of Redlands, one of the pioneering experimental colleges created amidst the reform movement in higher education during the 1960’s. He created a major in history, focusing on the history of Mediterranean societies from the Greeks to the beginning of Capitalism. Entranced by California and the west, he remained in California after graduating, working for five years at a San Francisco law firm before returning to Redlands to work in admissions.

At Redlands, he led admissions for the experimental college, and managed university-wide merit scholarship programs. As part of a leadership team developing strategy for enrollment growth, Nate has an insider’s understanding on how an institution utilizes merit aid and need-based aid to build a talented, skilled student body.

After fifteen years at Redlands, Nate moved on to Williams College in Massachusetts, where he served in the admission office, acting as an admission officer and a member of the admission review committee. At Williams, Nate was intimately involved in the process of selecting an admitted class from an extraordinarily talented applicant pool, including management of the waitlist.

Concluding a nine year stint at Williams, Nate began working as an independent admission advisor, while also working part time as an international application reader for Amherst College and at Williams.

In his off-time Nate hikes, serves in local town government, and roots for the Oakland A’s.
