I read this when I was a junior in high school, and it's still one of my favorite books. It follows the life of Dunstan Ramsay, all the way from his childhood in a small secluded town, through his experiences on the battlefields of WWI, through his time spent with a traveling circus, and finally his professorship later in life. It's rich with playful literary allusions, idiosyncratic characters, and philosophical questions. The plot is masterfully crafted, and seemingly innocuous events throughout the story are all tied together by the end to surprising effect. It's just a really, really good book.
Be sure to pick this one up for a really memorable read.
