College Spotlight: Bucknell University

This small liberal arts college packs a big punch. Bucknell is divided into three main colleges: The College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, and College of Management. These colleges offer programs in the arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences, engineering, management, education, and music, as well as programs and pre-professional advising that prepare students to study law and medicine. While Bucknell is mostly made up of undergraduate students (about 3,600 students total), there is also a very small graduate student population (about 60 students).

Whether you prefer suburban or rural, Bucknell has you covered. The campus is spread across 450 acres in small-town Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, along the Susquehanna River, but is also just a short day trip (about three hours) to New York City, Washington DC, and Philadelphia as well. You should know that even without travelling to any surrounding big cities, there are many opportunities to get involved in around the community, as well as on campus. Bucknell offers a good international presence, over 200 student organizations, a large Greek population, and enough sports teams to keep you busy year round! Are you interested in getting away from campus all-together? Bucknell offers more than 130 study abroad programs, too. It's also worth noting that the town of Lewisburg is quite charming and features shops, museums, a historic movie theater (pictured below), galleries, and a lot of delicious restaurant options.

While Bucknell might not be at the very top of the rankings list, it is consistently ranked in the top 50 year-over-year by US News and World Report, Forbes, The Princeton Review, and has even been named one of the "Hidden Ivies." Bucknell is also known as having a top engineering program-- ranking #7 by US News and World Report (source).

And fun fact: Bucknell's mascot is a bison called Bucky! The bison is a tribute to Bucknell's location in the Buffalo Valley of Central Pennsylvania.
