LogicPrep's 2021-2022 Early Acceptances

The 2021-22 college application cycle has been challenging, to say the least.

In last year’s tumultuous application season, Harvard, Yale, Penn, Dartmouth, and many other selective colleges experienced record high application numbers. A year later, that trend is continuing, with applications either remaining high or climbing at the country’s most selective institutions. At Brown, for example, Early Decision applications increased 11% over 2020 numbers, which were already 22% higher than in 2019. At Penn, Dartmouth, and Columbia, Early Decision applications dropped about 1-2% compared to last year, which hardly made a dent in the 23-33% increases these schools saw in 2020.

In the 2021 Early application round, gaining admission to highly selective colleges and universities was just as difficult, if not more so, than last year. This is especially true for international students, who saw a 51% increase in applications through the Common App compared to last year.

The continued application frenzy can likely be attributed to the extension of pandemic test-optional policies; the vast majority of colleges, including all eight Ivy League schools, maintained test-optional policies for the 2021-2022 application cycle. This continues to create a sense of (often unfounded) optimism for students who otherwise might have reached for less selective universities in the Early round.

For applicants, this means that finding ways to stand out from the crowd was—and is—more important than ever. Our College Advisors and Essay Coaches worked tirelessly to help our students’ applications shine through clear and compelling personal narratives, extensive preparation for interviews, and thoughtful development of their college lists. We’re so excited to celebrate our students' Early application successes!
